Oliver Marles
Secondary Assistant Headteacher (Teaching and Learning, Assessment and Professional Development)
After graduating from the University of Plymouth in 2015, I knew that teaching was the profession I wanted to pursue after spending six months working in Weihai, China teaching English and Sociology in a British International School. I completed my Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) through a School-Centered Initial Teacher Training program upon my return home. It was here that I really understood the hard work and dedication it takes to work in a school setting. It also made me realise that I love being in a classroom and creating the best chances for young people.
I have since worked in two different schools in the UK, with my most recent post in England being the Designated Safeguarding Lead and Pastoral Lead alongside my duties as a Teacher of English.
I moved to Doha and GEMS Wellington School, in 2020 as a Teacher of English. Then during the 2021-2022 academic year, I was the Head of Key Stage 3. This role was a real privilege as I was able to create relationships with a large number of our school community and really understand the needs and desires of our parent body. In 2022, I also completed my National Professional Qualifications course on leading behavior and culture (NPQLBC) and I am about to star my NPQ in Senior Leadership.
Currently I am a Secondary Assistant Headteacher for Teaching and Learning, Assessment and Professional Development. I am extremely excited about being able to make a difference to every child’s education that comes into our school as well as getting to work hands on with the fantastic teaching staff we have here at Wellington.
On a personal note, I am an avid football fan and enjoy playing golf here in Qatar. I originally come from a town in Devon, England called Paignton and growing up near the beach really ignited my love of travelling and exploring new places.
