Joseph Buckley
Head of Modern Foreign Languages
My name is Joseph Buckley and I am Head of Modern Foreign Languages at GEMS Wellington.
I was born in Oxford, United Kingdom and my passion for languages began in school. After studying French and Russian I went onto to Royal Holloway, University of London to study French and Spanish. During my time at university I studied a wide variety of linguistic and cultural elements and developed a keen interest in cinema and Latin American culture. As a part of my university course I spent time studying abroad at the Universidad de Chile and Université Aix-Marseille which were both hugely enriching experiences.
After completing my studies, I moved into teaching at ARK Burlington Danes, an outstanding school in West London. Prior to joining GEMS Wellington School Qatar, I have spent the last two years working at Reigate College in Surrey, as Head of Department. That particular role gave me the opportunity to promote languages to students moving into Higher Education which has always been a passion and a professional priority for me. I believe that an education in languages makes us truly global citizens and the opportunities that one or more languages can provide are endless.
Away from my subject, I enjoy travel, sport and music and am delighted to be part of the GEMS Wellington community.
