Jaffar Ghafoor
Head of Science
My name is Jaffar Ali Ghafoor and I am Head of Science here at GEMS Wellington School Qatar. I graduated from Royal Holloway, University of London with a BSc in Physics, quickly followed by a PGCE in Physics and Mathematics from the University of East London. I began my professional journey in education as a tutor for a wide range of educational companies before progressing into classroom teaching in 2016. My teaching is rooted in the belief that physics and science education should be both rigorous and accessible, fostering problem-solving, creativity, and resilience in every learner.
As I enter my third year at GEMS WSQ and in Qatar, I look back fondly on my first two years where I was welcomed into a community that deeply resonates with my values of kindness and excellence. In addition to leading the Science Department, I have been actively involved in student leadership programmes, and I look forward to continuing to nurture these values and ensuring every student is challenged, supported, and inspired.
Beyond the classroom, I take every opportunity I can to travel and love to play football at any given opportunity. I am also passionate about developing international perspectives, mentoring students towards competitive university courses, and engaging with wider educational projects that connect learning with global issues.
