Assistant Headteacher - Student Experience
Bilaal Motara is Assistant Headteacher for Student Experience at GEMS Wellington School, Qatar. Having built his career across both the UK and Qatar, he is passionate about creating school environments where every pupil feels supported, valued and empowered to succeed.
Bilaal believes that exceptional schools are defined by strong relationships, a sense of belonging and a commitment to developing the whole child. His approach focuses on ensuring that every pupil benefits from high-quality pastoral care, positive experiences and the opportunities needed to thrive both academically and personally.
Bilaal began his career at Wyndcliffe Primary School in Birmingham, where he was part of the team that supported the school's improvement journey from Special Measures to a Good Ofsted judgement, with elements of Outstanding recognised during inspection. Since joining GEMS Wellington School, Qatar, he has progressed through a number of roles, including Primary Teacher, Head of Year, and Lower Key Stage 2 Phase Leader. As Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, he has played a significant role in supporting pupil wellbeing, safeguarding and staff development across the school community.
Bilaal holds a BA (Hons) in Childhood Studies from University College Birmingham and a PGCE from Birmingham City University. He has also completed extensive safeguarding training and professional development in coaching and leadership, reflecting his commitment to supporting pupils, staff and families as part of a thriving school community.
