Emma Wright

Secondary Assistant Headteacher (Secondary Student Culture and Wellbeing)

After completing my undergraduate degree BSc Sports Studies in Liverpool and through work experience as a sports coach it was clear to me that I wanted to pursue a career in teaching Physical Education. I gained my teaching qualification in my home city of Birmingham and worked in schools there for five years. I have always had a passion for travelling and was lucky to have gained work experience abroad such as Camp America. I decided to embark on the amazing opportunity of teaching in the middle east and I am now in my sixth year here at GEMS Wellington School, Qatar.

My passion is for sport, I have grown up playing county and regional level Netball and I continue to play here in Doha's competitive league. I have a background in Dance and I have been grateful to establish Dance here at WSQ amongst our students, where we compete annually in the BSME Dance competition and have had students go on to study Dance or Performing Arts at University.

My pastoral responsibilities began in the UK as Head of Year 7. I moved to WSQ as a PE teacher and within the past five years I have helped to develop the pastoral structure within the school and have experience as Head of Key Stage 4. I have completed my National Professional Qualifications course on leading behavior and culture (NPQLBC) and I am about to start my NPQ in Senior Leadership.

Currently I am Secondary Assistant Headteacher of Student Culture and Wellbeing and I hope to continue developing a positive student culture within our school to ensure that our students leave us as well-rounded individuals.
